Winston Churchill's quote “Wars are not won on evacuations” came directly from the battle of Dunkirk, and how the British ultimately had to start evacuating people in small boats. Churchill's quote is accurate because in a War, you would only cease to stop fighting if they had to surrender. War's were not won by people evacuating. However In Dunkirk the British were ordered to evacuate, because they were surrounded. When they did evacuate, they were able to save around 340,000 soldiers, but could you still count that as a victory?, and that's what Winston Churchill explains in his quote.

When the allies were able to take back Stalingrad from Germany, is when I believe to be the most significant point during the Second World War. As we know from the second unit that this was a heavily waited battle for both ends. It was a strategic move on Germany's part to try and take Stalingrad, because they knew their were oil resources close in proximity to the city which they needed. But also Germany knew taking over Stalingrad, would ultimately be like taking over Russia . It was a major turning point when the allies were able to defeat Germany in Stalingrad, although many casualties were lost on both ends.

The biggest technology advancements during the Second World War were the bombs that the US built to use on Japan. This was such a significant factor during the War, because it introduced a new type of warfare.
